Best Places to Take Photos in OKC
Posted in Family Photography, Favorite Locations Oklahoma City, Maternity Photography by Charis Elisabeth
You have your family photo session on the books. Now comes the question of where you want this photo session to take place? As an experienced OKC family photographer I’m here to share some of the best places to take family photos in OKC.
I have several questions I ask my clients to consider when we are trying to choose the perfect location for their photography session. Whether you’re having a family, senior, or maternity session these questions are helpful for anyone:
- is there a place in OKC that holds a special memory?
- is there a place you spend a lot of time at that can tell your family’s story?
- are you looking for a certain type of landscape?
- are you needing it to be wheelchair accessible? or close to parking lot because of family members that can’t walk far?
Oftentimes after thinking through these questions, it’s pretty easy to narrow down the best place in the OKC metro for your photo session.

From urban iconic places to nature parks, this comprehensive list of best places to take photos in OKC should help you find an awesome spot!
For my short sessions I do choose the more popular spots but if you choose a full family session we will tailor your location to the best fit for your family’s needs and desires.
Parks and Nature Spots in OKC
Will Rogers Gardens
3400 NW 36th St. Oklahoma City
Vibes: Manicured lawns, beautiful flowers, little ponds and in season flowers, a few green houses also can be used in winter months
This is one of my favorite locations for most of the season. Will Rogers Gardens are nestled in the NW OKC area and offer a wide variety of scenery for photo needs. Grassy spots, water and lots of flowers. Parking is quite easy and it is a beloved spot by many in the city to do family photos at. It’s free but can get pretty busy during peak seasonal months. There are strict hours for closing so always make sure you know what time you need to be out of there!
Wheel chair & stroller accessible? Yes.
Cost: Free
Check out this family session at Will Rogers Gardens.

Scissortail Park
Open green spaces, playgrounds, and downtown skyline views. A perfect place for sunset photos.
Myriad Botanical Gardens
301 W. Reno Oklahoma City, OK 73102
Vibes: Seasonal Flowers, lots of pretty landscaping – can get very busy and full of people.
In the winter the Crystal Bridge is a great place for photos too. Great views of the Devon Tower.
These gorgeous gardens in downtown OKC are another high sought after spot for family and maternity photos. The gardens can get quite busy so often times morning sessions are one of the best choices there! This place is very wheelchair and stroller accessible.
Wheelchair Accessible: Yes
Cost: Outdoor Gardens are Free | Crystal Bridge is $10 for adults.
Martin Park Nature Center
5000 W Memorial Rd – Oklahoma City, OK
Vibes: Open fields, lots of wooded areas, creek where photos can be taken
Martin Nature Center is another popular spot for photography sessions. The biggest downside to this location is the abundance of ticks during the spring, summer and fall months. Be sure to wear lots of bug spray and check afterwards if you use this location. There is a lot of variety for sessions if you are looking for that. I personally do not do sessions here due to the ticks.
Wheelchair and stroller accessible? Some areas.
Cost: Free

Lake Arcadia
2nd Street Parks – Edmond, OK | Vibes: lots of trees, lake and field views
I love the variety of this location in Edmond, OK holds. There are some very popular spots here but there’s also some hidden gems I will take your family. Again lots of variety. Usually down by the lake you don’t have to worry too much about bugs but if you go in the high grass always remember bug spray and to do a tick check.
Wheelchair accessible? most of it is not.
Cost: a few free areas and others are $10 a car
Bluff Creek Park
Fields of tall grass and golden light at sunset. This location can be used year round as it still looks great many times of the year. Check out my winter maternity session that took place here.
Pros: lots of areas to take photos in so even if busy you can get good spots
Cons: the bugs as usual.
Cost: Free

Lake Hefner
NW Oklahoma City
Vibes: Lighthouse, open fields, wooded areas, beach area – beautiful sunsets and sunrises
This delightful lake is another popular spot for family photo sessions. I love doing family sessions here as because we have a lot of time we can get a lot of variety and play into our photos. There’s the popular lighthouse spot (that can have lots of people at it so that can be hit or miss) but then many other areas of the lake provide both grassy open spots and beach areas where you van play in the sand and walk in the water. Make sure to wear bug spray during warmer months and do a tick check afterwards.
Wheelchair accessible? Some areas can be but not as friendly as other locations.
Cost: Free
There are also multiple little parks around that city that are great to take photos in so don’t forget to consider your favorite park and ask your photographer if it might be a good option.
Urban and Artsy
Sometimes the best backdrop isn’t a park or open field, it’s the heart of the city. Oklahoma City is full of colorful murals, historic buildings, and neighborhoods with so much character. These spots are perfect if you want photos that feel bold, playful, and a little more modern. Kids love the bright walls, and parents love the variety you can get just by walking a block or two.
Bricktown
I have really enjoyed sessions here the last few years. Not a great place though for toddlers or children that run since most sessions will take place close to the canal. Also double check to make sure no major festivals or events are taking place when you do your session
Cost: Free

Automobile Alley
A classic Oklahoma City downtown hip neighborhood with bright murals and historic buildings with character.
Plaza District
Playful, artistic walls and storefronts.
Heritage Hills Neighborhood
With it’s historic homes and huge trees shading the streets this neighborhood has a cozy charm especially in the fall. Want a whimsy fall town feeling? This is the place for those sessions.
Iconic & Unique Venues to Take Photos in OKC
The Wheeler District
The famous rainbow row makes a delight spot for any photo sessions. Stay respect of people’s personal property but have fun at this great spot. I have found week day evenings to be the best for sessions here so we don’t have to fight as many cars and people.

The Wheeler Ferris Wheel
Golden hour goodness for a very iconic Oklahoma City spot.
Cost: Free though ferris wheel rides are a small fee.
The Bumberhof
As their website headline states, “European garden luxury on a private estate” this gorgeous place allows some private photo sessions with approved photographers.
Cost: Rental Fees apply
Bethany, OK
A small intimate garden event venue that does allow rentals for photo sessions.
Cost: $250 per hour rental fee.
The Grove OKC
Arcadia, OK
A flower farm with wildflower fields, pasture and a pond for beautiful intimate photos.

Norman
Sutton Wilderness Park
1920 12th Ave NE Norman, OK 73071
the vibes: open field with trees in background, areas of trees – this is a very popular spot in the fall and always filled with lots of photographers

Saxon Park
2700 36th Ave SE, Norman, OK 73026
Vibes: open grass fields, tree lined paths. A paved walking trail makes this place easily accessible for families with young children and wheelchairs
OU Campus
Vibes: Old Artitecture feeling, campus vibes
A great place for many types of photos but don’t schedule on a game day or graduation weekend!
