Reading with my kids is one of our favorite activities. Our house looks like a mini library because ahem collecting books makes me happy! (and reading them does too but yes Thriftbooks sure does love to see me coming). 

Did you know there is some awesome research out there about how kids who are read to from an early age build stronger vocabularies and become stronger readers later on which is quite cool. Reading equips kids with so many tools! Not only does it help them in life but it also opens up their world to other cultures and places they haven’t seen or visited yet.

Reading together and then in community is a great way for kids to get to grow alot of different skills – emotional, social and learning skills while also giving us a parents a little break. These weekly storytime in OKC across the metro are perfect ways to get of out of the house together.

Saturday Storytime In OKC

Probably my favorite bookstore in Oklahoma City, this cozy place is a readers dream. Floor to ceiling books with fireplaces and chairs tucked into many places. Their children’s area includes a toy train set up to play with, kid size chairs and so many classic favorite books. Storytimes on Saturdays sometimes include a craft and always snacks.

A beautiful Midtwon Oklahoma City bookstore that is a treat to visit. Their story time runs about half an hour, which is exactly right for a toddler! During holidays and summer they will team up with other local stores to add special flairs for storytime (Like storytime with Santa in December ). Grab a coffee a clarity next door and you are set to go!

An Edmond storytime option and good one for slightly older kids since they build in crafts. They also bring in guest readers and speakers so check out their page to see who they are featuring before you go.

An easy standby. Lots of parking, a big kids section and so no pressure if you need to leave because someone melted down halfway through the storytime.

A story plus a fun hands on activity at one of the best child friendly spots in OKC. Learning and playing together and then you can stick around to play for awhile afterwards to make sure your kids are good and tired for naptime. 

Nature themed stores that are inspired by the seasons, it is held inside when weather is iffy and if the weather is nice it’s outside. Hop over to the Mango Room afterwards or run around the childrens garden afterwards.

Mustang Public Library | Wednesdays at 9:30 and 10:30

Mother Goose is geared for toddlers with songs, stories and a fun acitivitiy whereas baby goose is for the littles under one. Make sure to register to have a spot! Check it out here.

Wiggly Wednesdays is for ages 0-5 plus they also have a Saturday family story time. Belle isle is delightful Metro library branch and people come from all over OKC for their storytimes! 

And don’t forget to check out your local library branch. Both the metropolitan and the pioneer systems run multiple storytimes at their different branches. 

a few helpful tips for Storytime Saturdays in OKC

Leave your home with enough time to get there early for parking space and also to settle your kids in close. Sit in the back if you have a kid that is more likely to wander. Always bring snacks along and also consider it a success even if you don’t stay the whole time. You got out of the house, you did something and that counts!
