In Hospital Baby Photos
Posted in Fresh 48 Photography, Newborn Photography by Charis Elisabeth
Those first hours with your baby are unlike anything else. Everything is new, quiet, and full all at once. I have always felt they almost seem to stop in time after the rush of birth. There’s often a lot activity then suddenly you are alone with your baby. Here. In hospital newborn photos, often called Fresh 48 sessions, document that short window of time before the days blur together.
As an Oklahoma City Fresh 48 photography provider, these sessions are some of the most meaningful work I get to do. They are simple, honest, and rooted in exactly where you are during those first moments of parenthood.

Why Invest in In Hospital Newborn Photos?
Fresh 48 sessions are not about perfection or posing. They are about documenting exactly how it felt to meet your baby.
This is the stage where your baby still has their hospital bracelet, wrinkly skin, and brand new expressions. You as a parent are often tired, emotional, and completely in love, and those feelings come through so clearly in photos taken during this time.
In hospital newborn photos capture the small details that change quickly. Tiny fingers. First swaddles. The way your baby fits perfectly in your arms. These are moments that are easy to forget once you are home and settling into routine. Many parents tell me these photos end up being some of their most treasured because they reflect the very beginning of their story as a family.

When to Do New Baby Hospital Photos?
Fresh 48 sessions take place usually within the first 24-36 hours after your baby is born, typically before you are discharged from the hospital. The exact timing depends on how you and your baby are feeling, and flexibility is always part of the plan. I have done them as early as 8 hours after a baby arrives to 36 hours.
Once your baby arrives, we stay in touch and choose a time that works well around lighting and settling in. If at all possible we hold them between late morning to early afternoon as hospital light can be kinda tricky at times. Sessions are calm and baby led, with plenty of space to pause built in.
I photograph Fresh 48 sessions at several Oklahoma City hospitals, including the photos in this post at Love’s Women’s Center and I am familiar with working respectfully within hospital spaces without adding stress during an already full time.

What to Wear for In Hospital Baby Photos?
When it comes to what to wear, simple and comfortable is best. I provide clients with a more detailed guide but here are a few quick tips.
For parents, soft neutral colors photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your connection with your baby. Think cozy robes, button down tops, or simple dresses.
For babies, hospital swaddles, a simple onesie, or a neutral outfit work perfectly. Many families love including the hospital bracelet, name card, or a favorite blanket brought from home. Fresh 48 photos are about real life in the hospital room, so there is no pressure for everything to look perfect. The rawness and honesty only adds to the photso.

What a Oklahoma City Fresh 48 Photography Session Is Like
I work quietly, guiding gently when needed and stepping back if I see some natural moments unfolding that I know will be special to photography.
You never need to worry about your baby crying, needing to eat, or being changed during the session. All of that is completely expected! The goal is to document this time honestly, not to rush through it.
Your gallery will reflect the real story of those first hours, from quiet snuggles to wide eyed curiosity. (See another Fresh 48 photography session here.)

Is Oklahoma City Fresh 48 Photography Right for You?
If you value remembering how this season felt, not just how it looked, a Fresh 48 session may be a great fit. These photos tell the story of your baby’s very first days and the beginning of your life together. It’s a small way to pause during a fast and chaotic time to preserve those memories that feel a little blurry later.
If you are expecting a baby and would like to learn more about scheduling a Fresh 48 session, I am happy to answer questions and help you decide if this experience is right for your family.
