How To Find Your Perfect Newborn Photographer

Posted in Newborn Photography by Charis Elisabeth

Are you expecting and excited about meeting your new baby? Wondering how to find a newborn photographer to help you remember this beautiful season?

Welcome! I’m Charis,  an Oklahoma City newborn photographer and mama to three. I know firsthand how much there is to think through during pregnancy and those early newborn days. From picking the right pediatrician to prepping the nursery, your to-do list is packed.

And while finding a newborn photographer might not feel as urgent as your OB visits, it’s one of those decisions you won’t regret planning ahead for. Photos from this season become treasured memories. Today I want to give some tips so that you can find the perfect newborn photographer.

What is the easiest way to find a newborn photographer near you?

Head to the top of this page, click “newborn,” and fill out my contact form. I’ll get you set up, easy peasy. 😉 Okay, I’m (mostly) joking. But truly, if you’re in the OKC area and looking for a laid-back, joy-filled session that focuses on real connection and love then let’s chat!

As you explore your options, here are a few helpful things to consider:

What style of newborn photography are you looking for?

There are two main styles of newborn photography. Understanding what you’re drawn to can help narrow your search. But within each of those styles is quite a variation. Are you wanting to go somewhere or have someone come to you? Do you want add ons like make up or a client closet? Do you want a formal feel or a more cozy, relaxed vibe?

Studio Newborn Photography

This is the more posed, traditional option, you know, think baby in props or particular poses. These sessions take place in a studio, typically within the first 7–12 days of life when baby is sleepiest. It’s can be just baby-focused or include parent and sibling photos too.

Lifestyle Newborn Photography (my specialty!)

Lifestyle sessions are more relaxed, done in your home, and centered around your connection as a family. These sessions are baby-led which means you don’t need sleepy poses or perfect timing. Your baby can be a few days or even 6 weeks old. The focus is on cuddles, snuggles, and capturing your real-life love.

Review Their Work Thoroughly

Don’t just skim a photographer’s website. Look closely through their photos and scroll recent social media posts. Make sure the images feel like what you are looking for and are what you would want to put on your walls.

Ask About Experience and Training

If you’re considering studio-style newborn photography, it’s important to ask about their training and safety protocols. Do they use assistants or spotters? Are they certified in newborn posing?

As a lifestyle newborn photographer, I keep things safe and simple. I pose babies naturally – cradled in your arms or swaddled on your bed. No stiff posing, no elaborate props. Just real, relaxed moments that honor your baby’s comfort.

Factors For Newborn Photography Pricing

When you’re searching for finding your perfect newborn photographer, you’ll notice a wide range of pricing. A few key things affect what photographers charge: their experience, training, and what’s included in the session. Some photographers offer digital-only packages at a lower price point, while others also offer options for prints, albums, and custom gallery wall designs. Location plays a part too.  Are you going to them, or are they coming to your home? I offer in-home newborn sessions in the OKC area with no extra fees unless you’re more than 30 miles from my Edmond zip code. As you compare, keep in mind that the cheapest option isn’t always the best. You want someone who not only fits your style, but also helps make the experience smooth and meaningful.

Where to find your newborn photographer.

Word of Mouth
Ask your friends who they have used and loved. What did they like or not like about the situation? Read the business google reviews. Ask in local mom facebook groups.

Google is your friend!

When trying to find a newborn photographer local to you search things like, “newborn photographer near me” or “Oklahoma City newborn photographer”. Get more specific with searching for your needs and or wants like “studio newborn photographer near me” or “lifestyle newborn photographer near me”.

And finally don’t wait too long to book your spot…

Reach out early – ideally in your second trimester – especially if you want a specific style or photographer. I only take a limited number of newborns per month to keep things calm and flexible for my clients. But even if your baby is already here, still reach out. There may be space!
