Family and Newborn Photographer Serving OKC, Edmond, & Surrounding Areas
What TO Wear For A Lifestyle Newborn Session in Oklahoma CIty
Let’s talk about what to wear for your newborn session—because if you’ve just had a baby, the last thing you want is a closet meltdown an hour before your photographer arrives. As an Oklahoma City newborn photographer, I prioritize making your sessions as smooth and low stress as possible.
Good news? Lifestyle sessions are all about comfort and connection. Your clothes should feel like you. You don’t need to dress up or force anything that doesn’t feel natural. In fact, the best sessions are the ones where everyone feels relaxed and a little cozy.
For my clients I provide a detailed guide about what to wear for lifestyle newborn photos as well with several tips for how the session should run smoothly and they also get access to Style and Select to make the process easy.

What To Wear For Lifestyle Newborn Photos?
Consider Your Style
Start by thinking about your family’s style. What makes you feel your best and most comfortable? Since these photos take place in your home, they naturally lean toward a relaxed, cozy vibe. We can absolutely build on that to make your family look and feel amazing.
You don’t need to run out and buy new outfits. In fact, simple is often best. If soft neutrals are your style—great. But if your personality leans more vibrant, go for it! Jewel tones like deep green, plum, or navy can also look stunning.
Remember—what you wear does affect how your photos look. Light, neutral colors will give your images
an airy, natural feel. Darker tones bring in a more bold, moody vibe.
When in doubt, go neutral. Creams, beiges, soft pinks, sage, dusty blue—these tones photograph well and flatter most skin tones. They also help bring attention to the emotion and connection in your photos instead of the clothes.
What Should Mom Wear For Newborn Photos?
Choose something you feel good in. That might be a soft maxi dress, a cozy sweater with leggings, or a simple top with flowy pants. Think about what you’d wear to a brunch with your closest friends—comfortable but put together. Texture like cotton, gauze, or knit adds a beautiful touch in photos. And if you’re nursing, make sure the outfit works for that too.
What Should Dad Wear For Newborn Photos?
Keep it simple and classic. A henley, a soft button-up, a sweater shirt, or a plain t-shirt in a neutral tone with jeans or chinos always works. Avoid anything with logos, graphics, or loud patterns. To keep the relaxed vibes roll the sleeves to 3/4 length on a button up.
Siblings
Stick with pieces that are comfy and easy to move in—leggings, soft dresses, plain tees. Neutral or coordinating colors work best. We want them to feel like themselves and be able to play, cuddle, or jump on the bed without fussing with clothes.
And of course what should baby wear?
The simplest outfits always win. A well-fitted onesie, a neutral romper, or just a soft swaddle works beautifully. You don’t need a headband or bow unless it’s something special to you.
A little tip: choose a swaddle or outfit for baby that’s a different color from what you’re wearing. If everyone’s in cream and baby is too, it can make them blend in. A slightly different tone—like a muted blush, gray, or warm brown—helps baby stand out just enough without clashing. Choose comfort, connection, and clothing that feels like your family – keeping these 3 pillars in mind will help you find great outfits. You don’t need to match perfectly—you just want to coordinate in a way that feels calm and true to your home and your story.
