Best Birth Photography in OKC

Posted in Fresh 48 Photography, Newborn Photography by Charis Elisabeth

One thing I have not regretted was the decision to hire one of the best Oklahoma City Birth Photographers for the birth of my 3rd child. To be honest those photos have never been shared online so why I did choose to invest in them? I did it because I wanted to remember their birth. And also to my surprise and delight, one of the biggest gifts has been watching my children look through those images over the years.

Those photos help make birth feel normal and beautiful. They show where their story began and help answer questions about what happened that day while also giving them a glimpse into just how loved they were from the very beginning.

Birth photography is something that freezes in time some of the most important time of life. I currently only offer a few very limited spots for birth photography in a birth/newborn package. If you are interested in that send me a message and I’ll pass on details.

I do offer Fresh 48 photography and it’s one of my favorites! I’ll share a little more about it down below but I find it being a good inbetween if you aren’t sure you want to afford the expertise and time of a birth photographer but still want those early, wrinkly skin and cozy scrunches of the newborn. After I share about 3 fantastic birth photographers here in Oklahoma City.

Why hire a birth photographer?

Birth has a funny way of feeling both incredibly significant and strangely blurry at the same time. Even if you’ve given birth before, there are often moments you don’t remember clearly. It can feel like everything happens quickly and slowly all at once.

You might be thinking, “My labors are fast. Would birth photography even be worth it?” Welp I tend to have very fast end of labor. Having photographs of those moments helps bring me back to what actually happened when everything felt like a blur. And that feeling that shows in my face when my baby is on my chest for the first time.

Brith is the only event that can only happen once. It can’t even be restaged (unlike a wedding). So making the investment in photos is an important and beautiful decision. Birth photography freezes one of the most important days of your life and allows you to revisit it years later.

When Should You Hire a Birth Photographer?

The earlier, the better. Most birth photographers are on call beginning around 36 weeks of pregnancy, which means they limit the number of births they accept each month. If birth photography is something you think you might want, I recommend reaching out during as soon as you see that positive test or at least by the early part of the second trimester. But even if you are mere weeks away from labor and decide to birth photos are for you then go ahead and reach out to a photographer.

How to Find a Trustworthy Birth Photographer

This may be one of the most important photography decisions you’ll ever make. You’re inviting someone into one of the most vulnerable and intimate moments of your life and unlike many other types of photography, birth can never be recreated. You can’t schedule another first meeting with your baby. You can’t put that baby back in and let it take a second try at common out the birth canal.

You also can’t recreate the exact emotions, the anticipation, or the moment your child enters the world. And because of that, finding someone you trust matters tremendously.

When researching birth photographers, here are some helpful questions to ask so you make a good choice:

  • Can I see full birth galleries?
  • What happens if you’re sick?
  • Do you have a backup photographer?
  • What is your on-call process?
  • Have you photographed births similar to mine?
  • What do your reviews say about reliability and professionalism?
  • What does your contract cover?

You want someone who will not only create beautiful images but also show up when it matters most.

Want to remember those very first days but not sure you want to hire an Oklahoma City Birth Photographer?

Then a Fresh 48 photo session is perfect for you! Fresh 48 sessions take place during the first day or two after your baby arrives, either at the hospital, birth center, or even at home.

These sessions capture many of the same meaningful details families love about birth photography. The wrinkly newborn skin. and those oh so tiny fingers and toes. That first meeting between baby and siblings that is filled with excitement, wonder and maybe a little bit of anxiety.

Fresh 48 sessions often feel like a wonderful middle ground for families who aren’t quite ready to invest in full birth photography but still want professional images documenting those very first hours.

Honestly, Fresh 48 sessions remain one of my favorite types of photography because they preserve so much of the wonder and emotion of those early hours in an honest way.

Most families reach out during the second trimester or early in the third trimester. That gives plenty of time to get everything on the calendar without feeling rushed. And making sure you get your favorite photographer. If you wish you can also add in a maternity photo session too and a lifestyle newborn session so you can document the whole beautiful story of welcoming in your little one!
