OKC Birth Centers for a Natural Birth Experience

Posted by Charis Elisabeth

If you’re an expecting mom in the OKC area and hoping for a birth experience that feels more personal and calm, you might be exploring birthing centers instead of a traditional hospital setting.

There are 3 Oklahoma City birthing centers that offer midwife-led care, and can be a great option if you’re hoping for a natural birth with fewer interventions.

As a mom and an OKC newborn photographer, I often chat with moms about their birth choices and where they plan to give birth. I’m passionate about empowered birthing options and making sure moms feel safe and heard during pregnancy. Midwifery care is a time-honored, woman-centered model of care, with strong evidence supporting great outcomes.

The metro area offers two stand-alone birthing centers, as well as one hospital-based midwifery birth center. Each has its own strengths, so I’ve put together a quick guide to help you decide if one of these OKC birthing centers might be a good fit for your family.

Oklahoma City Birthing Centers

1. Oklahoma City Birth Center

Location: Oklahoma City – 814 NW 13th Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73106

The Oklahoma City Birth Center provides a safe, empowering environment for low-risk pregnancies. Run by experienced midwives, it supports natural births in a cozy, home-like setting.

The center is located close to OU hospital, so if an emergency comes up, you can be transferred quickly. They use an affiliate midwife model. In this model you choose your midwife, and she will follow your care throughout pregnancy and birth at the center.

Services offered: Prenatal care, water birth, home birth, birth center birth, postpartum support for mom and baby

2. Community Midwives

Location: Norman, OK – 2121 W Main St, Norman, OK 73069

While technically just outside OKC, Community Midwives is worth the short drive for many families. They focus on family-centered care and view birth as a natural, physiological process.

Their model includes a team of midwives you’ll rotate through during pregnancy, and whoever is on call will attend your birth. The center includes birthing suites with water birth options and a peaceful, homelike feel.

Services offered: Prenatal care, preconception care, water birth, home birth, birth center birth, postpartum care for moms and babies

3. Mercy Clinic Midwifery – Love Family Women’s Center

Location: Oklahoma City

Love’s Birth Center offers a peaceful, welcoming space for birth. Staffed by Certified Nurse Midwives, it’s located on the lower level of the labor and delivery unit at Mercy Hospital.

This center serves very low-risk mamas and uses a rotating midwife model, so you’ll get to be seen by all of them during your pregnancy. The birthing suites include queen beds, tubs, and showers for water-based pain relief (though water births are not allowed per hospital policy). After birth, you’ll be moved to the standard postpartum unit upstairs.

Choosing the Right Birth Center for You

Every birth story is unique, and the best choice depends on what makes you feel most comfortable and supported. These three options are a great place to start if you’re looking for a midwife-led, natural birth experience in the Oklahoma City area.

And if you’re planning ahead for those newborn moments you don’t want to forget, I’d love to be your photographer. In-home newborn sessions are relaxed, cozy, and centered around your family’s real connection. You can book a stand-alone session or create a package with maternity photos, a Fresh 48 hospital session, and a newborn session.
