Golden hour family sessions make my artist heart so happy! The light combines with nature to make everything come alive making it my favorite time of day to do outdoor sessions (in fact I rarely do them at other times because I try to encourage people towards golden hour sessions.)

Why choose golden hour? 

I get it can be a challenge…often times for families with little children it feels like a stretch to have their kids still awake at that time. But I will tell you it’s worth it! Why other times of day can work you don’t get the golden glow like you do during golden hour. (that was just a repeat sentence.)

When is golden hour? 

The great thing with golden hour is that we get two chances at it. It is the hourish period of light after sunrise and the hourish period of light before sunset. Morning and evening! Is your family a get up early and go? Then a morning session might work perfect for you! If not then stick with the evening.

In the winter golden hour is not quite so soft making the warmer months best for these sessions. Because golden hour is based on when the sun sets and rises it’s different every month and on basis different every day just slightly.

When we choose a date for your family photo session I look up and figure out when golden hour is so that your session can be at the perfect time!
