f you’re wondering whether to bring your dog along for your family photos–my answer is {usually} always yes! As an Oklahoma City Family Photographer, I’m delighted when locations allow for it, as including your pet in your session is such a special way to document what life really looks like right now.

Downtown OKC offers a fun mix of fall foliage, walkable spaces, and dog-friendly spots that are perfect for lifestyle family photos. In the fall I love the fact that we can often get pretty trees along with a fun more urban feel for a good variety in sessions.
A Few Reasons to Include Your Pet in Family Photos
Personality Filled Photos. Whether playing ball together, laughing your dog’s antics or giving sweet kisses, your dogs personality can add a lot of fun to the family photos.
They’re part of your family story. Your dog likely came into your family at an important time and documenting them alongside your growing family just makes sense.
Helps break the ice and formality to keep things relaxed. Kids (and parents!) often feel more at ease when the family dog is there. There’s more play, more laughter, and more genuine connection.
What to Know About Bringing Your Dog to a Family Photo Session
A few of my tips for including your dog in your family photography session:
Bring a leash (bonus points for a neutral or leather one – goes along with outfits way better)
Bring treats or a favorite toy to help keep their attention
Bring water along for you and your dog
Make a plan for how many of the photos you want to include your dog in – Plan for a few photos with your dog and then either have someone to take them for a walk or a safe space to let them rest while we finish the rest of your session
This downtown OKC session with a family of three and their personable new puppy was a perfect fall evening and we had a lot of fun. I had the privilege of photographing them the year before so getting to meet their new addition was delightful.
