Downtown OKC Splash Pads

Posted in Family Photography, OKC resources by Charis Elisabeth

I know one of my kids favorite summer activities is going to the splash pad, sometimes we pop in for a quick 15 minute cool off and other times we meet friends for several hours of water fun. Thankfully the metro area has so many spray pads to visit so thought it would be great to share some favorites and pros/cons about them.

Our Favorite Downtown OKC Splash Pads / Spraygrounds

Scissortail Park Sprayground

  • Address: 300 SW 7th St, Oklahoma City, OK 73109
  • Hours: Open daily from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM (weather permitting)
  • Features: A modern sprayground with large water jets and interactive features.

This park does lack shade but has alot of seating near the edge. It is not fenced in so keep a close eye on littles. It is HUGE. Right next to the scissortail play ground, trails and river rentals where you can rent kayaks and paddle boats at the boathouse.  Best for ages 4 and up

Myriad Botanical Gardens – Thunder Fountain

Thunder Fountain is probably our favorite downtown splash pad. As a mom I love the abundant shade and seating. It’s not huge so easy to keep an eye on kiddos and easy for me to even take a run under the fountain to cool off.

  • Address: 301 W Reno Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73102
  • Hours: Outdoor grounds open daily from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM
  • Features: The Thunder Fountain is a unique water feature with jets and mist, providing a refreshing experience for children.

Benches are around one side with lots of big trees to provide shade. Right next to it is the Myriad children’s garden so lots of play option.  Best for ages 2 and up but babies can play in it with parents.

 Duffner Park Splash Pad

  • Address: 2731 Winston Rd, The Village, OK 73120
  • Hours: Open daily from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM (seasonal)
  • Features: A heart-shaped splash pad featuring a large dumping bucket, spray loops, water cannons, and ground sprays.

Duffner Park ties in for the second place favorite for my kiddos. It is enclosed which is always a plus for me as a mama. Shade is not as abundant though there are several picnic tables with shade covers around the park.

Best for older toddlers to big kids.

Memorial Park Sprayground

  • Address: 1150 NW 36th St, Oklahoma City, OK 73118
  • Hours: Open daily from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM (seasonal)
  • Features: A traditional sprayground with various water features suitable for children of all ages.

Memorial Park lacks shade for the spray ground (limited picnic tables nearby with shade covers are about all that is by the splash pad.) but the park has alot of fun extras including a playground, tennis courts and a large walking path around the park.  Great for all ages.

One handy splash pad mom tip – keep things like sunscreen and a few extra towels and even a change of clothes in the car at all times in case you are by a park with water so your kids can play!

And last of all when you head out to one of our favorite downtown OKC splash pads don’t forget to take the “necessities” as I call them.

Splash Pad Packing List

  • Snacks
  • Sunscreen
  • Swimsuits or a change of clothes
  • Swim diapers for little ones
  • A portable chair (that way I have a seat if seating is all taken!)
  • Water
  • Towels
  • Simple water toys (e.g., reusable water balloons, small buckets or cups)
Newborn photos with dogs included.

If you are want go to other metro areas besides these downtown OKC splash pads then check out this list of our 5 favorite metro splash pads!

And as you’re checking off your summer fun list, consider adding a family photo session to it! The sticky popsicle faces, giggles under the sun, and wobbly toddler steps in the water are all part of your family’s story. I’d love to help you bottle up some of that joy before the season slips away. Contact me and let’s make it happen!
