5 Reasons to have a Newborn Session at Home in Oklahoma City

Yay! Your little one is either already here or arriving soon — and you know you want to remember this season. These early days go by so quickly, and newborn photos are such a beautiful way to pause time and document this sweet chapter.

As a lifestyle Oklahoma City newborn photographer, one of my favorite ways to photograph families is right in their own homes. There’s something so meaningful about capturing the early days of parenthood in the space where your real life happens. I have had my own newborn sessions at home and I think they are some of the most special moments of my life!

So here are 5 reasons to have a newborn session at home

. No Packing, No Stress

Getting out the door with a newborn (and maybe a toddler too?) can feel like a full-blown event. Diaper bags, spare outfits, bottles, burp cloths, wipes, extra pacifiers… it adds up fast. With an in-home session, you don’t have to go anywhere. Need a snack or a coffee break? You’re already home. Forgot a headband or backup outfit? It’s in the next room. Your only job is to soak in the sweetness of your baby while I document the moment.

It takes place in the comfort of your home.

The thought of getting photographed can be stressful. It can fill your mind with images of how you SHOULD look (is that how you WANT to look?) or how you SHOULD act (is that YOU?) But with being in your own home it can be as causal or dressed up as you want. You don’t have to be dressed up. You can have that cup of coffee and those snuggly clothes. If you want to dress up then go for it! But the choice is yours.

Drink a cup of coffee. Read a book. Snuggle with your pup. Play spot it with your littles.

This is also awesome for especially siblings and the new baby – often little children get nervous and stressed to be in a new environment. When I come to you – they get to be in the place they know. Surrounded by the things they know. The place that makes them feel safe and loved. 

your home is part of your story 

this is the place you brought your little one home too. This is the place where you likely carried that little one tucked away inside. This home is the starting place of their lives. Whether it’s a small apartment or your settled forever home, this place is part of the story of your lives and makes the best backdrop to tell this chapter of it.

Babyled – These sessions are flexible.

At in home newborn sessions, we let the baby lead. Which means going with the flow…baby is cluster feeding? No problem! Big brother melts down. Let’s put on music and dance! We have plenty of time. You have a special outfit you want for baby to wear for a few photos. We can do that no problem! You want Grandma and Grandpa to pop in at the end? We can do that too!

This final of the 5 reasons to have a newborn session at home – Choosing to have your photos done at YOUR home rather than a studio means they can’t be replicated by anyone else. They are uniquely yours. They tell YOUR story. They show the things that mean the most to you!

and a bonus reason – You can include your pets too!

I love having the whole family there for sessions and when you have it at home your pets can be included too! It’s their place and their surroundings so they are freaked out by some new studio.
