An Afternoon At Home by OKC Documentary Photographer

Are you looking for a way that you can freeze time for a bit? Then choosing a lifestyle family photo session at home is way that you can! There are so many beautiful benefits to working with an OKC documentary photographer to help you remember the seasons of your life.

There are so many benefits of choosing a lifestyle session at home. Some of those include:

  • being able to remembe the beautiful little things you might forget
  • a relaxed session
  • your little ones getting to be super comfortable
  • getting to snack and drink as much as you wish during the session
  • more than just pretty photos – photos that tell a story.

When a family reaches out to me about an at home documentary session, I take time to listen and hear what they are looking to be photographed. From there I give suggestions on the best timing (generally late morning or early afternoon is best but sometimes we will do a later afternoon combined with time outside.) I want to know what you as a family believe to be special and remembered.

Once we put the session in the schedule I provide a lot of guidance for planning the sessions, what to wear etc. Once I arrive at your home I will guide some but I also am a bit more a fly on the wall. At home photo sessions are about life being photographed – the real, the raw, the beautiful, the messy. I want to make sure I’m getting those real emotions and connections that turn into cherished photos.

I will move things around as needed. At time some suggestions of moving on to another activity can be helpful or standing in a different place for the light, etc.

But my main goal with these family photo sessions is to step back and let your family shine. While you play toys on the floor, strum a guitar or cut up strawberries for a snack.

I encourage families to see these lifestyle sessions as a way to sit, pause and hold onto time for a bit. Do some of your favorite things together like play a game, throw a ball, bake cookies, read a book, etc. It can be the simplest things like listening to music together or snuggles on the couch or something larger like making your favorite treat together.

You get to stop and breathe in the precious sweetness of your family for a bit. You can put away the to do list and say this is for us. This is now.

Lifestyle sessions usually have a lot of movement in them especially if little children are involved! Making sure little ones don’t get too frustrated is the name of my game!

An Afternoon At Home – OKC Documentary Photographer Session

This sweet family wanted to remember what life is like as their little girl was nearing her second birthday. It was a cozy afternoon at their home while they did several things that are important to their family. From chasing bubbles, to playing chase on the bed, to listening to her favorite books it was a session that documents it all for them!
