But good news is – a lifestyle session at home can be relaxed and perfect to your setting. Especially with a toddler. You don’t have to rush the toddler out the door, you don’t have to worry about the toddler breaking some studio equipment, you have snacks right hand and toys all around.

Let go of expectations. Release any ideas of this photo has to happen or my little one has to act this way. A toddler will always disrupt expectations. When you let go and can lean into the moments, the kisses, the snuggles, playing peek a boo, that’s when the magic happens. When you get photos that you actually can realize and see are you!

When I arrived for this sweet lifestyle newborn photo session with a toddler big brother, he was a bit shy but quickly warmed up.

These relaxed newborn photos help to tell the story of a new little sister join the family without any pressure to have to be just a certain way. Big brother could show me his favorite toys, eat a quick snack and run down the hall. He could jump in and out of photos as needed.

A few tips for a newborn session with a toddler:

• focus on your toddler – let them know they are loved and able to participate!
• try to speak positively and lovingly as much as you can the day of the session to fill up their cup
• have some snacks on hand and keep a drink handy
• Toddlers don’t have a long attention span and this is normal! Know you will have to move a lot. Moving positions, moving rooms, dancing, snuggling, laughing
• I might get a bit annoying as I sing songs with your toddler 🙂
